The Gray Box
My father never liked talking about the war. When we did, he always pointed out that it was a small amount of time from his life, and not one on which he wanted to dwell. He served on the submarine, USS Aspro, in the WWII Pacific Theater. This photograph is one that he took, quipping about the dead Japanese soldiers, within. This, among letters and memorabilia from other soldiers’ experiences, informed my experience in the writing of the award winning poem, “Pacific Theater.”
In the next step of my journey with this material, I am writing a stage play titled, “The Gray Box.” For the rest of this year, I will be sharing the objects from this war and the creation of the new work, “The Gray Box.”
I hope you will drop in from time-to-time to join me on this journey.
