I’m pleased to announce that my screenplay, WHITE DUST, and my co-authored screenplay, IN MIND, were selected to be featured in the Women in Film & Video (WIFV) Spotlight on Screenwriters Spec-Catalog. The catalog features production-ready screenplays written by WIFV members. This project is part of the WIFV Annual ScriptDC writers / producers / directors’ conference and in honor of its 35th Anniversary.
Spotlight on Screenwriters is made possible in part with the generous support of the Washington, DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development, Interface Media Group, Script Magazine, and The Writers Store.
With four hours and four minutes to spare, I wrote FADE OUT on my new screenplay, GREEN.
I met the challenge to write a script in thirty days. Even knowing that it’s a shitty first draft, I’m emotionally enthralled to have that feeling of accomplishment. I met script page count, wrote a compelling story that pushed my hero to his limit and beyond, and I created a new super hero for our times.
I also received notice from Final Draft today that my script, WHITE DUST, placed in the top ten percent of nearly 7,000 scripts.
With a beautiful day on tap, it’s time for a break from writing GREEN. This is a 30-day marathon, after all. I need to spend this beautiful day, outside — not sitting and definitely not thinking directly about the work. A hike in the woods is in order.
While yesterday was a tougher run than I expected, I encouraged myself to stay on task. Permission to write a ‘shitty’ first draft can come hard, sometimes. As soon as I hit the middle of Act 3, I made my list for today and shutdown my computer. I’m anxious to get back to see how my hero gets out of the even worse predicament that I left him in last night!
Two more days to go. By Tuesday evening, I must complete Act 3 to meet my goal of writing a feature length screenplay in 30 days.
Stay tuned: Last night, I received my poster for IN MIND, a science fiction screenplay that I co-authored with my good friend, Gabe Fremuth. The poster was designed by Chad Bartlett, and it’s awesome. After some announcements are made, we’ll feature the poster on this site.
I’m working on a new feature length sci-fi screenplay. My goal is to have a solid and coherent first draft in 30 days. I started on September 1, 2014 and expect to pen, FADE OUT, on September 30.
Today (9/20), I passed the mid-point of the script. My hero is taking a breath and recouping for his upcoming challenges.
Next week, I’ll complete Act 2 and begin Act 3. The working title of the script is GREEN, and it introduces a new super hero.
“White Dust” placed as a Finalist in the StoryPros Awards Screenwriting Competition on June 8, 2014. It’s listed with the top ten screenplays in the category for Action/Adventure/Thriller.
